How often should I feed my pet?

This may depend on your schedule and your pet’s preference.

Some dogs and cats do well with one meal per day and many pets do well with their food divided into 2-3 meals throughout the day.

Dividing your pet’s food into more than one meal is usually better for digestion, for maintaining blood sugar levels and a healthy metabolism, and for reducing hunger between meals.

Additionally, some very small pets—such as puppies and kittens, or adult dogs that are under five pounds—may need their food divided into multiple small meals, to keep their blood sugar from dropping too low.
