Kaycee's Kritters

My name is Karen and I am a self proclaimed animal lover. From the time I was young I have had animals in my life. I decided at an early age that the best career for me was in the animal field. I took a part time job in a veterinary clinic while I was in high school, to set me on the right path. Graduating from Sheridan College with an Animal Care Technician Degree, I continued to work full time at the vets and also completed a course in animal nutrition.

Using my knowledge, persistence and my natural love for my ‘babies’ I was able to open my own business. Kaycee’s Pet Food and Supplies was born. I operated the store for two years before introducing grooming into the mix. I loved the idea of dealing with the animals ‘hands on’ every day, and dove right into my work. That resulted in a very successful business, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

After moving to Brantford and some time off to have a couple of babies of my own I created the sequel, Kaycee’s Kritters. Although a great deal of our business is dog and pet grooming we have added basic obedience training and in house boarding for select pets.

Our boarding kennels have finally arrived. Karen has dreamed about building our doggie hotel for many years. Kaycee’s Kritters is situated on 5 ½ acres of land. We have a small hobby farm which adds extra entertainment and scenery for our visitors. We have plenty of room for some great walks. We are also adding a large fenced common area to allow social time for temperament approved dogs to run with the pack, or single free run time for those that prefer to run solo.

Each room has a window and a pet door, giving your pet lots of sunshine and free access to their run all day. The doors and windows are locked at night for safety and everybody is tucked in with a special treat (upon owner approval). Four of our rooms are joined together in pairs by a center entrance, so if your dogs are in both rooms we can simply open the middle up so everyone can stay and play together in both rooms. This is a great option for larger families. Before leaving we will work with you to build a stay plan which will keep your pet on their regular schedule to minimize stomach upset and added stress. We know this is not home, but we hope to make your pets stay away from you as easy as possible. Our staff is trained in animal care, so we are familiar with administering medication, and all forms of feeding (including raw).

Basic Obedience training gives you a solid groundwork for all future training, as well as the simple advantage of understanding your dog. You will learn, sit, down, focus, sit/stay, down/stay, leave it, touch, loose leash walking, and bed. We will also introduce come and heel, which are two of the more difficult cues (to be solidified in future training). More importantly, as we work with you to perfect these cues, you will build a relationship with your dog that will carry you through any future training. Each week you will develop a better understanding of the thought process of your adult dog or puppy, and form a hierarchy that will work for your home.

Kaycee’s has small classes (no more then 4) and this allows for us to work on a more personal level with our students. It also allows us flexibility to make minor changes to the course outline if there is something over and above that you would like help with. The course runs once a week on the same day at the same time (various weekday evenings, and Saturday mornings) for 6 weeks. The price of the course is $150.00. We also offer a “Bring-A-Friend Program”, which allows you to enroll as a group, and receive additional discounts. Please feel free to call us for more information, or course availability.

Grooming is by appointment only. We currently book grooms Monday through Saturday with some evening appointments available.
