Why should a pet parent feed Large Breed Puppy for so long?

The recommended feeding time is based on how long it will take your puppy to reach their adult size and for their growth plates to close —at which time, they’ll transition to adult food.

In general, small breed dogs finish growing earlier than their larger counterparts—sometimes as early as 7-10 months of age.

Large and giant breeds, on the other hand, have a lot of growing to do! These puppies typically don’t reach their adult size until 14-24 months of age (the bigger your dog, the longer their growth period will be). So, they need puppy food for a longer time than a smaller dog would need it.

During puppyhood, it’s important for large and giant breed puppies to grow at a steady pace, too. Rapid growth can lead to bone deformities and other bone development problems. Our food formulation supports this special need of larger pups.

Fromm’s Large Breed Puppy formulations take into account all of your big puppy’s nutritional needs while they grow, in order to provide them with the best possible start in life.
