About Us

For the past ten years we have been partners in raising and caring for dogs at our playcare and boarding facility on Route 1, where we also offer grooming, walking, training, and socialization. So, it was a natural progression for us to open The Dog Store in the heart of Del Ray - on Mount Vernon Avenue.

Boarding

Deciding where to board your dog can be a tough decision.

That's why Your Dog's Best Friends^SM has introduced Bedroom Boarding^SM, a more natural, low-stress way to board your dog. We don't use cages, or stalls, or kennels. At night, your "best friend" sleeps with other dogs in a comfortable bedroom at the foot of the bed where a trained staff member spends the night.

Daycare

We call our approach to cageless daycare, Positive Playcare. Positive Playcare is the fusion of the science of positive conditioning with the service of dog daycare. It is also our commitment to you and your dog to earn and maintain a relationship based on positive interactions.

Training

The goal of any training is a dog that is better behaved. Your Dog's Best Friends training aims higher. Our goal is a dog that is happier, more fulfilled and a proud and positive part of the family. Our approach to training is rooted in positive training techniques using praising and playful voice, command tone, and individualized rewards. We avoid the use of coercive corrections or other methods that have the potential to erode the bond between owners and their dogs.

Grooming

Cuts and Kisses

In addition to the best baths and cuts in town, your dog is going to get a whole lot of loving from our groomers and staff - excellent care is an important part of your dog's grooming experience. We don't groom on an assembly line; your dog is given the full personal attention they deserve - bath, cut, and blow dry are always by hand.

Veterinary Clinic

We have partnered with Vet In A Box to offer regular vaccine clinics including the canine influenza vaccine. Please call us at 703-685-9166 or check our social media for the most up to date schedule.

Pet Adoption

We host events with local rescues, mainly The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria and other local rescue groups as availability arises.

Bakery

We have a variety of beautifully decorated "barkery" cookies for almost any occasion! Available both at our store and main facility
