About Us

Big Dog Little Dog Bakery was incarnated by our need to find all natural, healthy food and treats for my beloved Maddie (Belgian Malinois X). When we adopted Maddie in 1999, she had an extremely sensitive stomach causing her to be limited to eating only bland food. Maddie was adopted at 8 years of age and had been on a gastro dry food recommended to her previous owner by her vet. When we tried to switch Maddie to our other dog Austin's (Husky/Lab X) dry food, she could not tolerate it (we will not describe it here, but you get the idea...). We decided to research to find out if we could help her. Along with her intolerance for all dry food on the market at that time (this was 14 years ago and dry food has come a long way since then), she had also been developing arthritis in her hips and spine, she had a rough, dull coat, her teeth dirty and her breath even worse.

We went to work and researched home-cooked meals and home-baked treats for dogs. From that research, we formulated recipes that not only could Maddie tolerate, but that she also LOVED to eat!

Our Big Dog Little Dog Bakery Gourmet Doggie Dinners (see 'Cooked Dinners' sub-section under 'Products') were formulated for Maddie, with the help of Dr. George Foukal - founding veterinarian of North Burnaby Veterinary Hospital.

Our Big Dog Little Dog Bakery baked treats (see 'Baked Treats' sub-section under 'Products) were taste-tested by Maddie (Director of Product Development), and paw-approved by Austin (Quality Assurance Manager).

Today, both Maddie and Austin have crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Maddie thrived on Gourmet Doggie Dinners, raw food, BDLDB treats, and supplements. Maddie lived to be a ripe old age of 18.5 years and Austin to 16 years. Not bad, considering that they were both bigger dogs, and they had happy and healthy lives right to the very end... RIP sweet Maddie and Austin <3.

Big Dog Little Dog is an artisan bakery that specializes in custom goodies for your pets. We offer a wide variety of specialty baked goods that range from 10" bone cakes to 3.5" mini luv ya cakes. There are many options to choose from and don't forget the party hats!

*Please note that products that state "pick up in store only" can be paid for online but cannot be shipped and must be picked up in store.

Q: When will my order ship?

A: We ship all online orders Monday - Friday via Canada Post. On Canadian holidays, your order will ship on the next available days.

Q: What kind of shipping options do I have?

A: Currently the only option for shipping is a flexible rate based on the number of items.

Q: I placed an order, but I haven't received my package yet; where is it?

A: We recommend looking up your tracking number that is sent via email upon your items being shipped. If the tracking indicates that the package has been delivered, please give Canada Post a call and see if there were any errors in shipping addresses or any delays.

Q: Do you ship to the US?

Yes, we do! Customers are responsible for paying all duties and taxes--Canada Post will collect on delivery before you receive your package.

Q: Do you ship internationally?

A: Sorry, we do not offer international shipping at the moment. If you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected].

Q: What is your return policy?

A: We can help with returns on a case by case basis. We do not accept returns on frozen raw food.

Returns on items that are unopened/unused with tags on may be returned in store within 7 days or shipped back to us at your own cost within 14 days. We will verify the purchase and items before processing the return.

Curbside Pickup

At Big Dog Little Dog we appreciate how precious your time is. If you would like to call in your order ahead of time, to save some time, we will happily fulfill your order and bring it out to your car.
