Puppy Dawgs and Cat Tails

Customers experience sustainability when they enter the doors of Puppy Dawgs & Cat Tails. The interior is upcycle, restore, & recycle on display, not just the merchandise they offer but the 200 year old building itself. Housed in Brenham's historic Beaumier Iron Works, visitors feel they are shopping in a truly special place.

Developing a retail space out of an old foundry had its challenges; lighting being one of them. By hanging 64 bare bulbs from the exposed iron beams, Puppy Dawgs and Cat Tails kept the industrial look and feel while creating a positive shopping experience. Some of the original wooden warehouse shelving and over a dozen repurposed doors from a salvage project in East Texas have been used to define spaces and create additional display areas. The texture of the wood from doors and shelves softened the 25’ red brick walls of the ironworks building while keeping their unique warmth and beauty. Puppy Dawgs and Cat Tails is separated by the original intact foundry by a fireproof metal door that is hung on an angle and has counterweights that would be closed if the foundry caught on fire during it’s working days.

Moving into Beaumier iron Works was a bold move. After all, it’s located on the other side of the tracks to some that may seem a natural barrier. After history chimes in, those tracks are some of the oldest rail tracks in Texas constructed in 1858 and run straight to Blue bell Creamery.
