Western Pet Supply began doing business over thirty years ago, founded by our current owners; Bill & Julie Williams. The idea took fruition in their garage when they made the decision to create a cedar pet bed for their golden retriever Boohn. They simply couldn’t find any pet beds on the market that met the specifications that they desired.
Before they knew it requests from friends, neighbors and local retailers started pouring in and they were filling orders in the thousands. In 1988, they opened the first Western Pet Supply store on Scholls Ferry Road in Portland, Oregon, while continuing to create their original cedar pet beds in the back of the store. That facility quickly became far too small for their growing business and in 1996 they moved the store to it’s current location on Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway.
At Western Pet Supply, our aim is to provide the highest level of service and satisfaction to our customers. We strive to provide as much information to our customers as we possibly can to help them make an informed decision. We are not salespeople. We are pet people. All of our staff has a passion to be the best at what we do.
We’re proud to say that our family here at Western Pet Supply is committed to excellence. We have numerous years of pet related experience between everyone on our staff. We’re fortunate to have such an extension knowledge base to cull from. We can tackle everything from dog and cat information to fish & reptile facts and pretty much everything in between, furry or not so furry! And if we can’t find you an immediate answer, we will do our best to track the information down for you. Please call us or stop by today.
We currently provide pet training classes at our facility. We work exclusively with Barbara Tuler of The Pet Consultants. She provides a six week training class. Barbara has over 25 years of training experience and has worked with all sorts of behavioral problems. She can be contacted directly for more information on this class at 503-646-1442.
These classes are great for dogs 4 months and older who need to learn some manners. Basic obedience classes are also recommended for dogs who just need a refresher course and for rescue and newly adopted dogs who would also benefit from a basic obedience course. In this 6 weeks course, your dog will learn to walk nicely on a loose leash, sit, stay, come, and lie down. The leave it, drop, and look at me commands will be addressed. Jumping up, leash aggression, biting, mouthing, chewing, digging, and barking will be discussed with available solutions. Dogs will also benefit from distraction training and group socialization. Classes emphasize fun and practical obedience for everyday living. The classes are taught with a positive approach so that you can see the good in your dog.
We currently work with Good Neighbor Vet to offer a low cost vaccination clinic each Sunday from 2:30 – 4:00 pm.
Good Neighbor Vet offers a full pet health exam performed by a licensed veterinarian, pet micro-chipping, and diagnostic testing for heart-worm, feline HIV and leukemia at their mobile vet location here at Western Pet Supply. Their affordable preventative care pet clinics offer your pet the best pet care available which will help ensure your companion lives the longest and fullest life possible. For surgical and diagnostic procedures (x-rays, ultrasound, etc.) they refer clients to local full service veterinary clinics.
